- thank you.
Named
after the fertile valley that separates the beautiful
Green Mountains of Vermont and the more rugged Adirondacks
of northern New York State, the Champlain
Valley Velo Club, and its website,
has been created to support and organize the enthusiastic
sport riders who reside in and around the Chittenden
County area of northwestern Vermont. By bringing
this large group of enthusiastic cyclists together
we hope to give us all the opportunity to ride more
often, with each other, and in areas we might not
normally ride.
An
ideal place to ride, this region offers a large
number of quiet country roads comprising a broad
diversity of terrain from the extensive flats of
the “Valley” to the long sustained climbs
that dot the spine of the Green Mountains all right
in our back yard.
We
welcome all riders, but our current membership is
made up primarily of enthusiastic road riders aged
30 to 60. Those members that race participate primarily
in Masters, Veterans and Cat 4/5, but the vast majority
don’t race, just like to ride, and often participate
in organized rides both within and outside our region.
Last year, as an example, a small group journeyed
to France to ride in L’Etape
du Tour 2002.
Our
rides vary widely in length and intensity with spring
and early summer rides typically being longer easier
miles, while mid- summer and fall rides many times
have a fun competitive edge, but we always regroup
so that we ride the majority as a group.
During
the off-season, the club organizes cross-country
ski and snow shoe outings most weekends.
